Surfing in El Tránsito

There’s a reason travelers speak of Nicaragua surf culture with a sparkle in their eyes. Surfing in el Tránsito is raw, authentic and unforgettable – a place where beginners catch their first wave and advanced riders chase perfect sets. Among the best surf spots in Nicaragua, this coastline stands out for its consistency, beauty and welcoming vibe that makes every session special.

Beginner friendly and super consistent

MAINBREAK

El Transito Beachbreak is one of the most consistent, if not the most consistent, wave of Nicaragua. It breaks from 1 to 6 foot and works best between mid- to high-tide. The wave breaks left and right and has something for every level.

FRONTYARD wave

PISTOLS

“Pistols” is the wave right in front of Nimbu. After a fast and steep take off you can get barreled both ways, left and right. Take your time to watch it closely before your heading out. Good for advanced surfers.

Worth the longer walk

PANGAS

This wave is located right between the Mainbreak and La Vuelta. It is a bit longer, steeper, heavier and barrels from time to time. It also works best from mid- to high-tide and has a long left and a shorter right. Can take a bit more swell than the Mainbreak.

Low tide heaven

LA VUELTA

Right on the south end of town you will find a left point-break called La Vuelta. It needs a bit more swell and works best around low tide. It will offer you an easy take off with one of the longest rides in El Transito, perfect for your first green wave or to just improve on your cutbacks.
